I'm back from a trip to India. Pictures to follow. Just a quick report on my Drupal content management system experiences. I am starting to really enjoy the way it works. I see now that it is a great structure upon which to build a custom site. It's logic takes a little getting used to but as I've been working with it I'm understanding it more and more. The key to functionality is modules. There are many modules to choose from on the drupal.org site. I have found that the key is to put them into a folder called "site" and in a subfolder called "all." If you don't do that, when you upgrade to a higher version of Drupal, your theme, that you've probably modified, might get erased. Themes, as I'm sure you've guessed, are what decide the look of your site. Web designers can modify these themes for their clients, and then once a Drupal site is in place, the clients can pretty simply create their own content without having to know about html, css, ftp and the other things that webdesigners have to know. That is the benefit of these content management systems. Once you design the site for the client, the client can then modify it, once they are trained on it. They can do that right from their browser, Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox or what have you. Next entry I'll tell you crucial modules that you must have. Like ones that allow clients to put pictures in text like the one above and bold their text easily.
